TESCO Nurture

Tesco-specific responsible sourcing and quality standard for fresh produce

TESCO Nurture (now part of the Tesco Sustainable Farming Standard) is Tesco's proprietary supplier scheme for fresh fruit, vegetables, and salad. Developed in partnership with growers, it covers food safety, environment, social welfare, and quality standards specific to Tesco's UK requirements.

Nurture is built on top of GlobalGAP IFA but adds Tesco-specific requirements: pesticide management (often stricter than EU MRLs), water and energy efficiency, soil health, biodiversity, plant nutrition, labor welfare, and animal welfare.

Audits are conducted annually by approved certification bodies. Non-conformities can result in supplier suspension or removal from the Tesco supply chain.

For Egyptian growers exporting fresh produce to Tesco UK (or via Tesco's regional distribution centers), Nurture certification is a must-have. Without it, your produce will not be accepted.

FoodGate Audit conducts Nurture pre-audits and gap analyses. Common findings: pesticide rotation programs, water source assessment, biodiversity action plans, and worker accommodation standards (relevant for migrant or seasonal labor on Egyptian farms).
