BRC (BRCGS)

British Retail Consortium global standard for food safety

BRC, now known as BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standards), is a globally recognized certification scheme for food safety, originally developed by UK retailers in 1998. It is now the most widely adopted food safety standard globally.

BRCGS Food Safety covers seven key areas: senior management commitment, food safety plan (HACCP), food safety and quality management system, site standards, product control, process control, and personnel. Audits are unannounced or announced (depending on grade) and result in certification grades AA+, AA, A, B, C, or D.

For Egyptian exporters supplying UK retailers (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda) or major EU retailers, BRCGS certification is often a contractual requirement. Without it, your products cannot be accepted in their supply chain.

FoodGate Audit performs BRCGS pre-audits and gap assessments to help facilities prepare for the formal certification audit. Our inspectors are trained in the latest BRCGS Issue 9 (or Issue 10 when published) requirements. Common improvement areas: traceability systems, supplier approval programs, foreign body management, and CAPA effectiveness.
