Across the 527 notifications on Egyptian fruit, vegetables and herbs recorded between 28 November 2019 and 23 July 2026, sweet potatoes account for none. The comparison inside the same dataset is what gives the figure its weight: counting on the subject line of each notification, the ordinary table potato logged 5 over that period, strawberries 50, and the citrus family 182. Sweet potatoes are also absent from the EU list of products subject to increased border controls under Regulation (EU) 2019/1793, whose annexes were replaced by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1206, verified for our July 2026 season watchlist. RASFF counts border findings, not consignments, so the dataset describes what was caught rather than what was shipped, and a crop that attracts fewer targeted samples has fewer chances to appear in it.
